The internet of things (IoT) is a computing concept that describes the idea of everyday physical objects being connected to the internet and being able to identify themselves to other devices. System Architecture and Infrastructure

A typical IoT system usually consists of the following 4 lays: devices, gateway, cloud server and user-end application.

1. IoT Devices:
IoT devices collect, transmit and receive data using sensors, actuators, communications hardware, processors and other components. IoT devices can be controlled externally or perform intelligent actions on their own using the collected data. An embedded operating system, onboard software application and user interface is integrated with the hardware device. That’s why sometimes we call it “smart device”.

2. IoT Gatways:
IoT Gateways help to connect IoT devices to the Internet and, as a result, make it possible to interact with them. The connectivity can be done with different communication protocol such as Wifi, Zigbee, Bluetooth, Cellular 2/3/4/5G, Z-wave and more.

3. Cloud Server:
Using Big Data analytics engine it is possible to collect and securely process the data within the “cloud”. As a result, this data can be used to perform actions and send various types of signals to IoT devices. Popular choice of cloud service provider includes Amazon Web Services IoT, Microsoft Azure IoT, or Google Cloud Platform.

4. End-user Applications:
Applications with intuitive user-interfaces help end-users interact with IoT devices, namely, to control and monitor them. The devices where the application runs can be mobile, computer or tablet depending on the scenarios. The interactive part is called human machine interface(HMI) in industrial application or user interface(UI/UX) in commercial application. The application is integrated with the cloud through API.
